Expert Craftsmanship. Lifetime Care.
Jewelry wears in predictable ways, and most of what goes wrong is fixable long before a stone is lost. Prongs thin at the tips, chains kink where they fold, rhodium wears through on white gold, and settings loosen with daily contact. At Sky Diamonds in Las Vegas, the most common repairs include ring sizing, prong retipping, stone tightening, chain and clasp repair, rhodium plating, and watch service, all performed on site by our own jewelers.
RING SIZING
What it is: Sizing a ring up or down to fit properly, including bands with stones set partway around
When you need it: A ring that spins on the finger or will not clear the knuckle. Full eternity bands generally cannot be resized
PRONG RETIPPING
What it is: Rebuilding worn prong tips that hold the center stone in place
When you need it: Prongs that catch on fabric or feel sharp. The most common cause of a lost stone
STONE TIGHTENING
What it is: Resecuring loose stones in an existing setting before they fall out
When you need it: A stone that moves or clicks when the ring is tapped against a hard surface
CHAIN & CLASP REPAIR
What it is: Soldering broken chains, replacing worn clasps, and adding safety catches
When you need it: A chain that has kinked in one spot, or a clasp that opens on its own
RHODIUM PLATING
What it is: Replating white gold to restore the bright white finish
When you need it: White gold that has gone warm or yellow, usually first visible near the shank
WATCH SERVICE
What it is: Battery replacement, bracelet sizing, link repair, and polishing
When you need it: A watch that has stopped, a bracelet that slides on the wrist, or a case that has dulled
Sky Diamonds publishes pricing for common repairs so you know what to expect before you walk in. The menu covers ring sizing by metal, prong retipping, stone tightening, chain and bracelet repair, rhodium plating, shank and crack repair, channel rebuilding, head replacement, pearl restringing, and watch services. Work quoted by estimate is priced after inspection, and nothing proceeds without your approval.
Handing over a ring you wear every day is a matter of trust, and where the work actually happens matters more than most people realize. At Sky Diamonds, every repair is performed on site by our own jewelers. Your piece never leaves the building and never gets shipped to a third-party shop. The jeweler doing the work can look at it with you at the counter, explain what it needs, and tell you honestly what is worth doing. We repair jewelry purchased anywhere, not only pieces bought here. Below is what separates good repair work from the kind that has to be redone.
Many jewelry stores send repair work out to a third-party shop, which means your ring travels, changes hands, and comes back on someone else's schedule. At Sky Diamonds, every repair is done on site at our Las Vegas showroom by jewelers who work here. That removes the risk that comes with shipping, shortens turnaround, and means the person handling your piece is the person you can ask about it. It also means we can look at a piece at the counter and tell you immediately whether a repair makes sense or whether the piece needs something different.
Our bench uses laser welding, which concentrates heat into an extremely small area rather than heating the whole piece. That difference matters more than it sounds. A torch can loosen nearby stones, discolor metal, and damage heat-sensitive gemstones, which is why some repairs on stone-set or antique jewelry are declined outright elsewhere. Laser welding allows precise work close to set stones, on thin or delicate sections, and on pieces where the original craftsmanship needs to survive the repair. It is what makes restoration of inherited and antique jewelry possible in Las Vegas without taking the piece apart.
Most losses are preventable and give warning first. A stone that moves or clicks when you tap the ring against a hard surface has a loose setting. Prongs that catch on fabric have worn thin at the tip and are close to failing. A chain that has kinked in one spot will eventually break there. White gold that has gone warm near the shank has worn through its rhodium plating. Rings worn daily are worth an inspection every year or two, and the inspection itself takes only a few minutes at our Las Vegas showroom. Catching a worn prong costs a fraction of replacing a center stone.
Restoring an older piece is a different job than repairing a new one, because the goal is preserving what makes it what it is rather than making it look new. Milgrain, hand engraving, and filigree soften with decades of wear and can be rebuilt, but the work has to match the original hand rather than replace it. Inherited rings often need a combination of shank repair, retipping, and resetting before they are safe to wear again, and some are better reset into a new setting than restored in place. Our jewelers at Sky Diamonds in Las Vegas will tell you plainly which path a piece calls for, and the CAD design process is available if resetting is the better answer.
Yes. Sky Diamonds accepts repair and restoration work on jewelry purchased anywhere, including inherited pieces and jewelry from other stores. Bring it into our Las Vegas showroom at Town Square and a jeweler will assess it with you at the counter.
